Indigenes from the North Central region have outlined eight major demands for President Bola Tinubu. These demands, gathered by Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement (North Central), reflect feedback from a listening tour across five states in the region.
The key issues raised include the constitutional recognition of traditional rulers, the establishment of state police for improved security, and assigning the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the responsibility for conducting local government elections.
Additional demands include enhancing transparency in state and local government funding, reintroducing a price control board to regulate commodity prices, and improving welfare for retirees and senior citizens. The indigenes also emphasized the need for public awareness on new policies and digital monitoring of palliative distribution.
Essiet’s full report is expected to cover all six states in the region, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
