President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced significant progress in his administration’s fight against terrorism, particularly against Boko Haram insurgents in the Northeast and bandits across Nigeria. During a nationwide broadcast marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, the President highlighted the successes achieved since he took office 16 months ago, during a time when the nation was grappling with economic and security challenges.
Tinubu stated that his administration’s reforms, which focused on restructuring the political economy and defense architecture, have led to the rapid elimination of over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders in the Northeast and Northwest regions. He emphasized the importance of reforming the country’s defense strategies to counter these threats effectively.
“Our government has eliminated Boko Haram and bandit commanders faster than ever,” Tinubu said, noting that peace has been restored to hundreds of communities in northern Nigeria, allowing displaced people to return to their homes. However, the President acknowledged that the work is not yet finished, and security agencies remain committed to restoring peace so that farmers can return to their lands.
