Isa Rabiu, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, has called on former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to refrain from claiming innocence regarding allegations of embezzlement during his tenure. Rabiu emphasized the importance of allowing a comprehensive investigation into El-Rufai’s eight years in office, following accusations that his administration misappropriated over ₦423 billion.
El-Rufai has recently dismissed claims of financial misconduct, asserting that he entered politics to serve the public rather than to amass wealth. He expressed frustration over being accused of corruption without any concrete evidence, highlighting that he was satisfied with his pre-governorship status.
However, Rabiu responded by urging El-Rufai to await the outcome of investigations before making public statements or invoking the Quran to affirm his innocence. He reminded El-Rufai of past political actions, noting that the former governor had previously initiated an investigation into his predecessor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
Rabiu criticized El-Rufai’s integrity and urged authorities, including the Kaduna State government, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to thoroughly investigate El-Rufai’s tenure and seek restitution for any misappropriated funds. This ongoing political discourse underscores the broader concerns regarding accountability and governance in Kaduna State.
