The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has initiated talks with Brazilian Ambassador Carlos Garcete to activate the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and Brazil. This agreement, initially signed in 2018, aims to enhance air connectivity and foster economic cooperation between the two nations.
During their meeting, both parties emphasized updating the BASA arrangements to reflect current aviation industry realities. The discussions also follow the mutual interests expressed by Presidents Bola Tinubu and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during a February 2024 meeting. The plan includes the potential for 4 to 5 direct flights per week, which is expected to boost trade and cultural exchanges between the countries.
Two Nigerian airlines, Air Peace and Caverton, have been designated to operate the route. Committees will be set up to finalize the updated BASA, and the Brazilian ambassador invited Keyamo to Brazil for the official signing.
