A Policeman, Inspector Saka Ganiyu, was allegedly killed by soldiers from the Ojo Cantonment Barracks after an altercation at Volks Bus Stop, Ojo, Lagos. The incident began when a soldier, driving an unregistered T4 Volkswagen bus against traffic, was stopped by policemen enforcing traffic regulations.
The soldier, who was not in uniform, became agitated and called for backup from his colleagues at the barracks. A group of soldiers arrived and attacked the police officers, leading to Ganiyu sustaining severe injuries.
Ganiyu was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His body has been moved to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
The military has taken the soldier involved into custody, and investigations are underway by homicide detectives to ensure justice for the slain policeman. The identity of the soldier is yet to be revealed as the investigation continues.
