Liam Payne, the British singer and former member of the global sensation One Direction, has died at the age of 31. Authorities in Buenos Aires confirmed that Payne passed away following an accidental fall from the third floor of a hotel in the Palermo neighborhood on Wednesday.
The Buenos Aires police responded to a distress call about a man behaving disruptively and suspected to be under the influence. While the police did not initially confirm Payne’s identity, subsequent reports have since verified it.
Payne had recently been in Argentina, attending a concert by his former bandmate Niall Horan on October 2. His death comes just days after celebrating his 31st birthday in the UK. Originally from Wolverhampton, England, Payne rose to international fame as part of One Direction, which was formed in 2010 on the UK show “The X Factor.”
The music world is mourning the loss of this beloved artist.
