States Paying Above N70,000 Minimum Wage:
- Lagos State: On October 16, 2024, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a new minimum wage of N85,000 for Lagos State workers. He plans to further raise it to N100,000 by January 2025.
- Ogun State: Governor Dapo Abiodun increased the minimum wage to N77,000 on October 15, 2024.
- Gombe State: The Nigeria Labour Congress and the state government agreed to raise the wage to N71,451.15 on October 14, 2024.
- Ondo State: Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa boosted wages to N73,000 on October 12, 2024, during his governorship campaign.
- Kogi State: Governor Usman Ododo approved N72,500 for civil servants and suspended taxes on the new wage for one year.
States such as Anambra, Katsina, Ebonyi, Adamawa, Oyo, Borno, Osun, and Benue have also agreed to adopt the new N70,000 wage, while Jigawa, Zamfara, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa have yet to make announcements.
This move reflects a growing trend towards better pay amidst rising living costs across Nigeria.
