The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested 18-year-old Abba Aliyu for the kidnapping of his neighbor’s 2-year-old son, Saidu Ibrahim, in the Badon Hanya area. The incident, reported by Ibrahim Shehu, the boy’s father, occurred on October 13, 2024, with Aliyu demanding a ransom of N2 million.

The police, acting swiftly through intelligence-led operations, tracked Aliyu’s location and arrested him behind Zamson filling station. A Tecno Android phone used in making ransom demands was recovered.

According to ASP Ahmed Rufai, the police spokesman, Aliyu confessed to the crime, admitting that he kidnapped the child to extort money from his family. The boy was released after a payment of N500,000.

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Musa commended the officers involved and emphasized the importance of safeguarding children against criminal elements. He urged parents to teach their children basic safety protocols, including avoiding strangers and staying in well-lit areas. Musa also highlighted the importance of encouraging open communication between parents and children to prevent such incidents.
