A naval officer, identified as Leading Seaman (LS) Akila, reportedly shot and killed his colleague during an early morning altercation on October 25, 2024, in Dansadau, Zamfara State. The two officers, stationed at Team 3 of Operation Sheto Yanma (formerly Operation Hadarin Daji), engaged in a heated argument that led to the fatal shooting.
The Nigerian military confirmed the incident, stating that Akila was immediately arrested, disarmed, and is now in detention pending an investigation. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, explained that after the investigation, the case will proceed to a court martial. He noted that the military is currently following protocol to notify the deceased’s family and has requested respectful reporting to avoid further distress to the family.
