The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has declared the local government elections held on Saturday by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) as illegal. According to APC leader Rabi’u Bichi, a Federal High Court order issued by Justice Simon Amobede in Kano deems the election null and void due to alleged bias within KANSIEC in favor of the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Bichi noted that the court’s ruling, which found KANSIEC’s leadership partial towards the NNPP, has not been appealed, rendering any election results invalid in the APC’s view. Additionally, he referenced another Federal High Court decision disqualifying all NNPP chairmanship candidates, further questioning the legality of the election.
Meanwhile, KANSIEC Chairman Prof. Sani Malumfashi defended the commission, asserting its commitment to neutrality and adherence to procedural standards. Malumfashi cited a recent Kano High Court ruling that affirmed KANSIEC’s jurisdiction to conduct the election, countering the APC’s claims and confirming that the election process would proceed under lawful guidelines.
