Baltasar Engonga, the Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been arrested amid a scandal that has rocked the nation. Investigators uncovered explicit footage allegedly involving Engonga and over 400 women, many of whom are the wives of prominent national figures, during a fraud probe.
The investigation found that Engonga, known as “Bello,” had recorded intimate encounters, with videos implicating high-profile individuals, including the sister of the President and the wife of the Director General of Police. Many of these encounters reportedly took place in Engonga’s office at ANIF, even featuring the national flag, and have leaked online, causing a media uproar.
Attorney General Nzang Nguema expressed concern over public health risks posed by the scandal, though he noted that the recordings appear consensual. The government has taken swift action, suspending all officials found engaging in sexual conduct in ministry offices as part of a new zero-tolerance approach to unethical behavior.
Vice President Nguema Mangue also condemned the actions, emphasizing that maintaining public trust and professional ethics is essential in the nation’s administration. He vowed that such violations of the Code of Conduct would be met with strict consequences, sending a strong message of accountability across Equatorial Guinea.
