Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has formally notified the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, about planned public meetings, rallies, and processions organized by the non-governmental body, the Take It Back Movement, alongside other patriotic Nigerians and groups.
In a letter dated Friday, July 26, 2024, Adegboruwa detailed that these rallies are scheduled to take place from August 1 to 10, 2024, or any time thereafter at Eagle Square in Abuja and other public spaces in the capital cities of all 36 states and the headquarters of the 774 local government councils.
Adegboruwa emphasized the importance of police presence during such rallies and protests, urging the IGP to provide the details of any police officers or teams that will be assigned to cover the events. This, he said, is necessary to harmonize plans and strategies for maintaining order and ensuring safety during the gatherings.
The request follows warnings from security agencies and groups regarding the planned protest. On Thursday, the Department of State Services (DSS) cautioned against the demonstrations, stating that it had identified the sponsors. While acknowledging citizens’ right to protest, the DSS warned that some elements might attempt to hijack the events.
