Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, has provided insights into the delay in the commencement of the newly announced Ministry of Livestock Development. According to Kyari, the Ministry’s launch is pending the receipt of a crucial report from the Livestock Committee led by Attahiru Jega.
Kyari addressed the issue on Wednesday following a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and Jega. He emphasized that President Tinubu is keen to see the new ministry operational, underlining his commitment to exploiting the potential within the livestock sector.
“The President is very eager for the Ministry of Livestock Development to start. We are currently waiting for the committee’s report, which is essential for the ministry’s activation,” Kyari explained.
He expressed confidence that the forthcoming report would offer valuable solutions and improvements for the livestock industry, both in the short and long term.
Attahiru Jega, co-chairman of the Livestock Committee, acknowledged the challenges faced by the committee but assured that their recommendations would significantly benefit the livestock sector if implemented successfully.
Jega stated, “President Tinubu has shown great support, recognizing that getting this right could greatly enhance opportunities in our country. While the task is challenging, it is achievable, and we are committed to delivering recommendations that will provide substantial benefits and address existing issues in the livestock industry.”
