Nollywood actor, Baba Rex, has expressed disappointment with Nigerians who seem to side with controversial singer, Speed Darlington, following his conflict with Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy. The clash escalated after Burna Boy filed a formal complaint accusing Speed Darlington of defamation and cyberstalking, leading to Darlington’s arrest last week.
According to reports, Darlington was detained in Lagos and later transferred to Abuja, where he was held until his release on Tuesday, after meeting bail conditions. Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju and activist Omoyele Sowore were instrumental in securing his release.
Before his release, some Nigerians criticized Burna Boy for not charging Darlington to court within 72 hours of his arrest. Baba Rex, however, took to Instagram to question why people were turning against Burna Boy, despite Speed Darlington’s disrespectful remarks. He expressed frustration with how public sentiment quickly shifted against Burna Boy, stating, “Person insult person for social media… When the person take action, dem go turn against person wen collect insult.”
Baba Rex’s comments highlight the growing debate around the responsibility of celebrities and the public in addressing cyberbullying and online insults.
