The Bauchi State Government has announced that all Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) will be closed on the day of the planned nationwide anti-government protest. The decision aims to safeguard the lives of healthcare staff and patients amid anticipated security risks.Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, disclosed this during the bi-annual media engagement on PHC Services Reporting Techniques held in Bauchi on Tuesday.
“Security reports suggest that our PHCs might be targeted during the protest. To avoid risking the lives of our staff and patients, we will temporarily shut down these facilities,” Dr. Mohammed said.
On the day of the protest, healthcare staff will be on leave to prevent potential harm. Services will resume once the protest concludes, and the board has coordinated with security agencies to ensure the protection of healthcare facilities throughout the state.
Dr. Mohammed also addressed ongoing efforts to combat zero-dose immunization in certain local government areas (LGAs) of Bauchi State. He highlighted the importance of media involvement in promoting immunization drives, which are scheduled to coincide with market days, naming ceremonies, and other community gatherings to reach women and children effectively.
