Bode George, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, has clarified his reasons for not backing Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign in the 2023 elections. Speaking on a TV program, George denied that his decision was influenced by regional bias. Instead, he cited Abubakar’s role in allegedly dividing the party during the election campaign as the main reason for his lack of support.
George emphasized that his decision was based on principles, not ethnicity, stating, “I have no trace of tribalism in my blood.” He pointed out that after a northern president had served for eight years, it would have been inappropriate to support another northern candidate immediately. George also criticized the manipulation of the party’s internal processes, which he believes contributed to the PDP’s eventual defeat.
He urged party members to prioritize unity over personal ambitions, calling for the establishment of a committee to review the 2023 election results and prepare for the 2027 elections.
