Justice Haruna Mshelia, Chief Judge of the Borno State High Court, has been released from captivity after being abducted by suspected Boko Haram militants on June 24, 2024. The abduction occurred on the Biu-Damaturu-Maiduguri Road and involved Justice Mshelia, his wife Bintu, their driver, and a police orderly.
Although Justice Mshelia has been freed, his wife and the driver are still being held by the terrorists. Unfortunately, the police orderly was executed by the kidnappers. The legal community has welcomed Justice Mshelia’s release and continues to call for the safe return of the remaining hostages.
