A recent report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reveals that residents in nine Nigerian states spent a total of ₦312.27 billion on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in 2024. The report, based on data from 7,706 households, highlights energy consumption trends, with 19.4% of households using LPG while traditional fuels like fuelwood remain prevalent, used by 67.8% of households.
The survey also found that Sokoto led in LPG expenditure, with residents spending an average of ₦12,439.30 monthly, while Ekiti recorded the lowest at ₦8,213.50. Despite the rise in LPG usage, fuelwood and charcoal continue to dominate energy sources for cooking.
