The Federal High Court in Abuja has denied the Rivers State Government’s request to pause proceedings in a lawsuit aiming to block financial allocations to the state’s 23 local government areas (LGAs). Presiding over the case on October 25, 2024, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik deemed the stay application, filed by Rivers State’s counsel Gordy Uche (SAN), as frivolous and unwarranted.
The lawsuit, initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly and Honorable Martin Amaewhule, seeks to compel the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to suspend funds allocated to the LGAs. Despite Rivers State’s appeal questioning the court’s jurisdiction, Justice Abdulmalik confirmed plans to proceed with the hearing.
