The Federal High Court in Lagos has set September 12 as the hearing date for multiple applications concerning the forfeiture of assets linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele. Presided over by Justice Deinde Dipeolu, the case involves $2.045 million and several properties that were previously subject to an interim forfeiture order issued on August 15.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), represented by Bilikisu Buhari-Bala, confirmed compliance with the court’s directive to publish the order in a national newspaper. Emefiele’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), has requested a stay on proceedings, while the occupants of one of the properties sought an adjournment to prepare their defense. The court will now hear all applications on September 12, determining whether the assets will be permanently forfeited to the government.
