Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, has proudly announced that 339 of its students have earned First-Class degrees this year. The significant achievement was revealed by the Registrar, Regina Tobi-David, during the institution’s 19th convocation ceremony, which included the conferment of First and Higher Degrees and the presentation of prizes.

This year’s event, themed “Release of Eagles for 2024,” marked the graduation of a total of 1,607 students, comprising 1,456 undergraduates and 151 postgraduates.

In her congratulatory remarks, Regina highlighted that this is the first time the university has recorded such a high number of First-Class graduates in its history.

This announcement comes shortly after Covenant University was recognized as Nigeria’s top university in the 2024 Times Higher Education Rankings.

Additionally, Covenant University (CU) has been ranked as Nigeria’s leading university in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings. This prestigious annual evaluation assesses universities worldwide, with this year’s rankings featuring 1,907 institutions from 108 countries.

The rankings utilize 18 criteria to gauge various aspects such as teaching quality, research environment, research output, industry collaboration, and international perspective. The 2024 analysis drew from over 134 million citations of 16.5 million research publications and included input from 68,402 academics globally, with THE collecting data points from 2,673 universities for comprehensive evaluation.

On an international scale, the University of Oxford has retained its position at the top for the ninth consecutive year, surpassing Harvard University’s previous record of eight years. Stanford University has climbed to second place, while Harvard has fallen to fourth, and the University of Cambridge has also dropped to fifth after previously sharing third place with Harvard in 2023.
