Renowned Nigerian music executive and CEO of Mavin Records, Don Jazzy, has shared insights into why he strategically avoids scheduling new music releases on the same day as prominent artists like Wizkid and Asake.
In a recent interview on Fisayo Fosudo’s podcast, Don Jazzy explained that releasing a song or project simultaneously with such high-profile artists would significantly reduce the visibility and impact of his own artists’ releases. To circumvent this, Mavin Records has shifted its release schedule to Wednesdays and Thursdays, avoiding the heavily contested Fridays.
“If my artiste were to release music on a Friday and Wizkid or Asake is also dropping on that day, I would move our release date,” Jazzy stated. “You don’t want your release to get overshadowed or to face undue competition.”
