The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has announced the appointment of Nemi Edwin-Iwo as its new Commissioner of Police. Edwin-Iwo officially took over the role on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, succeeding CP Funsho Adegboye, becoming the 47th commissioner to lead the command.
Before his appointment in Edo State, Edwin-Iwo served as the Commissioner of Police overseeing intelligence at the Force Intelligence Department, located at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Hailing from Okrika Local Government Area in Rivers State, Edwin-Iwo holds a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Port-Harcourt and a Master’s degree in Industrial Relations from the University of Ibadan. His career in the Nigeria Police Force began in 1992 when he joined as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
Throughout his career, Edwin-Iwo has held various key positions, including Assistant Commissioner of Police at the Bauchi State Command and Commissioner of Police for the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. He has also served as the Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos and Oyo states, and as a Divisional Police Officer in Bayelsa State.
Edwin-Iwo is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and has undergone extensive tactical and leadership training both in Nigeria and abroad. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to bolster security efforts in Edo State.
