The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the re-arrest of popular social media influencer and crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, in Lagos. His arrest occurred late Thursday night at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where he was removed from a KLM flight headed for Amsterdam while attempting to travel to London.
In a dramatic turn of events, Bobrisky took to Instagram to inform his followers about the incident, claiming he sustained injuries during an altercation with immigration officials. He accused the EFCC of orchestrating his detention, posting, “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
Sources indicate that Bobrisky’s arrest was prompted by his failure to respond to multiple invitations from the EFCC following his public allegations against the commission. In a voice message shared by social commentator Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky allegedly stated that he had paid EFCC officials N15 million to have money laundering charges against him dropped. The EFCC has denied these claims and established a committee to investigate the allegations.
At a press conference, Wilson Uwajaren, the Director of Public Affairs for the EFCC, stated that Bobrisky could face further charges if his allegations against the commission are proven false. Uwajaren highlighted that making misleading statements to the EFCC could lead to prosecution.
A senior EFCC official revealed that Bobrisky was detained to provide clarification on his accusations against the commission. “We have arrested him in Lagos today and will be flown to Abuja. He accused us of bribery and corruption; we invited him several times, but he did not respond. He who alleges must be ready to prove,” the source told The PUNCH.
EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest, stating, “Bobrisky is on his way to Abuja as we speak.”
