IHS Nigeria, a key player in communications infrastructure and part of the IHS Towers group, has announced a strategic partnership with Jaza Energy aimed at enhancing energy access and promoting sustainability in Nigeria. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and community development.

Jaza Hubs: Each Jaza Hub will feature solar panels that not only power the towers but also generate excess energy to charge battery packs for local use. This initiative aims to reduce dependence on diesel generators, which are less environmentally friendly and more costly.
- Project Green: This partnership aligns with IHS Towers’ Project Green, a $200 million initiative aimed at reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030. The project is part of IHS’s Carbon Reduction Roadmap and reflects its commitment to integrating solar solutions into its operations.
- Community Impact: Jaza Energy’s approach includes employing local women to operate the hubs, fostering economic growth and social inclusion. This model not only provides job opportunities but also empowers women within these communities.
- Expansion and Reach: Jaza Energy has previously made significant strides in clean energy access, delivering over 3 million solar battery swaps and reaching more than 100,000 people in Tanzania and Nigeria. The partnership with IHS Nigeria is expected to extend clean energy access to approximately 200,000 additional people by 2025.
- Environmental Benefits: The installation of 250 solar hubs is projected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 32,600 to 33,000 tonnes over seven years, contributing to Nigeria’s environmental goals and promoting a greener future.
- Additional Initiatives: Beyond this partnership, IHS Nigeria has been active in promoting sustainable energy solutions. The company has previously deployed hybrid power systems at over 9,000 sites and donated solar-powered streetlights to benefit around 510,000 residents. IHS Nigeria also established an Energy Hub in Lagos State to support energy-related innovation and education.
