The Federal Government has appointed 15 new Assistant Comptrollers General (ACGs) and promoted 95 officers to the rank of Comptroller within the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). These promotions are part of a large-scale initiative that saw 13,977 immigration officers advance in rank.
Speaking at the decoration ceremony held in Abuja on October 4, 2024, Ahmed Ja’afaru, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), emphasized the historical significance of these promotions. Many officers had been stuck in their ranks for up to 10 years due to limited vacancies, a problem now resolved by the Ministry of Interior.
Notably, five officers received special promotions for exceptional performance, including one officer who saved significant costs for the Service by completing a project internally, avoiding the need for external consultants.
Kemi Nandap, Comptroller General of Immigration (CGIS), praised the government’s efforts in supporting career development within the NIS. She highlighted that this promotion exercise will help eliminate career stagnation, creating a more motivated workforce.
“This mass promotion is historic and demonstrates our commitment to rewarding excellence,” Nandap remarked. The promoted officers range from Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI2) to Assistant Comptroller General, and from Immigration Assistant II (IA2) to Inspector of Immigration, reflecting the government’s dedication to strengthening the service.
