The Federal Government has initiated a full investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), following claims made by popular internet personality, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the probe in a statement released by his media aide, Babatunde Alao, stressing the Ministry’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and misconduct.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the investigation will be thorough and transparent, led by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. The Minister reassured the public that any official found guilty would face strict disciplinary measures.
The investigation stems from allegations in a viral video, where Bobrisky claimed to have paid ₦15 million in bribes to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials to avoid money laundering charges. The EFCC has already constituted a separate investigative team to look into the claims.
Bobrisky was recently released from Kirikiri Correctional Centre after serving six months for a naira abuse charge.
