The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the restoration of the national electricity grid, which collapsed on Monday, October 14, 2024, is nearly complete. In a statement, TCN confirmed that power recovery efforts are progressing after a partial disturbance occurred around 6:48 PM on Monday, followed by a setback on Tuesday at 10:24 AM.
Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, confirmed that power has already been restored to Abuja, with further recovery ongoing. The grid recovery process was initiated promptly using the Azura power station as the starting point. Despite the setback on Tuesday morning, the TCN assured that the grid restoration is now well advanced, with power restored to around 90% of the company’s substations across the country.
The statement also clarified that the Ibom Gas generating station in the South-South region was not affected by the grid disturbance and continued to provide power to areas like Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and Itu. A full investigation into the cause of the partial grid collapse will be conducted once the restoration is complete.
