The House of Representatives has extended its annual recess by one week, moving the resumption date from Tuesday, September 17, 2024, to Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
Hon. Akin Rotimi, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, announced the postponement on Wednesday in a statement to Parliamentary Correspondents. The delay is to allow for the inauguration of the new board of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) and the formation of the Joint Senate/House Ad-hoc Committees on the Petroleum Industry Investigation.
Members were informed of the schedule change via an internal memo from Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Clerk of the House, following directives from the House Leadership.
During the recess, lawmakers actively engaged in constituency outreach, addressing key local issues and providing oversight to various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
Upon reconvening, the House leadership plans to inaugurate the PCC board and the joint committees on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, and will outline further details during plenary. As the 10th Assembly resumes, the legislative agenda will continue focusing on reforms for national development and fulfilling its mandate to the Nigerian people.
