Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has expressed a high regard for Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, placing him above Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in terms of technical abilities. Peseiro, who led Nigeria to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), highlighted Lookman’s exceptional skills in creating goalscoring opportunities, noting that he has recently added goal-scoring to his repertoire.
Peseiro praised Lookman’s development under Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, acknowledging how well the player has adapted to the team’s style of play. “Ademola is more technical than Osimhen, more inclined to create the game, and who is now also scoring. He is performing very well this year,” Peseiro told SportItalia.
He further elaborated that Lookman and Osimhen have both flourished due to the strong systems in place at their respective clubs, Atalanta and Napoli. “Atalanta and Napoli want the ball; they want to play and attack. In these conditions, players get excited like this. Italian football has changed a lot in the last few years,” he added.
Reports have recently linked both Lookman and Osimhen with a potential move to Arsenal. Arsenal is said to be considering a substantial offer, including defender Jakub Kiwior, to acquire Lookman, despite the forward reportedly being close to joining PSG. Additionally, Arsenal is also back in the race to sign Osimhen, potentially setting up a competition with their London rivals, Chelsea, for the 25-year-old striker.
