Alvarez to Announce Future with Manchester City Post-Olympics
Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez has revealed that he will decide his future with the club following the 2024 Paris Olympics. Alvarez, 24, is currently representing Argentina at the Olympics and is set to make his third start for his national team against Ukraine in Lyon later today, July 30.
When asked about his future with Manchester City, Alvarez, who extended his contract with the club until 2028 in March 2023, said, “There is a lot of talk. I am focused here [at the Olympics] because it is a short tournament. At Manchester City, I feel very good; I played a lot of minutes. But we will see after the Games. First, if I can, I will take a few days off. Then we will decide.”
Despite being primarily used as a substitute during the 2024-2025 season, Alvarez expressed satisfaction with his performance. “Maybe it’s annoying to be out in big games; players always want to help on the pitch. But my season was good, so I’m very happy,” he stated.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, currently on a pre-season tour in the United States, acknowledged Alvarez’s contemplation of his future. “I read he has to think about it, so OK, think about it and after that he will inform us what he wants to do,” Guardiola commented.
Alvarez is currently linked with several top European clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Chelsea. Manchester City might consider selling him this summer if any of his suitors meet his price tag, which exceeds £50 million.
