Nigerian music icon King Sunny Ade has addressed long-standing rumors about a romantic relationship with the late singer Onyeka Onwenu. During a condolence visit to Onwenu’s family, KSA clarified that the speculation was part of a promotional strategy for their hit song “Wait for Me.” He explained that neither he nor Onwenu ever confirmed or denied the rumors, stating it was a deliberate move to generate interest in their music.
King Sunny Ade praised Onwenu as an extraordinary woman who provided invaluable advice and support throughout their collaboration. He expressed his deep respect and sadness over her passing.
Onwenu’s family has announced that she will be laid to rest by the end of August 2024. The burial plans will be detailed in the coming days. King Sunny Ade, alongside other members of the Musical Society of Nigeria, has paid tribute to the late singer, promising to honor her legacy through their performances and remembrance.
