Former New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso has expressed his distress over the severe flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State. He described the situation as “horrifying” and called for swift intervention from authorities to assist those affected.

In a statement shared on his X account, Kwankwaso conveyed his condolences and prayers to the people and government of Borno State. He wrote, “I have seen horrifying images from Maiduguri, where many parts of the city are submerged by water. I appeal to the authorities and those who can help to render all necessary assistance to safeguard the people and their communities.”

Recent reports indicate that the flooding in Maiduguri has been linked to the overflow of Alau Dam, displacing numerous residents and causing widespread damage. Social media footage shows evacuees seeking refuge as the situation worsens. In response, the Borno State government has closed schools and is preparing for potential further escalation in the coming days.
