Organized labour has issued an ultimatum to state governments, demanding the commencement of the ₦70,000 minimum wage payment by the end of October. According to a labour leader who spoke anonymously to Vanguard, the federal government has agreed to meet with state governors to discuss the implementation of the new minimum wage, which was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu. The labour union insists that the minimum wage took effect from April 18, 2024, and any failure to comply will result in legal consequences.
If the state governments fail to meet the October deadline, the union has vowed to take further action. The labour leader emphasized that both public and private employers who do not comply will face penalties under the law
