Nigerian-born French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu has left Chelsea on a season-long loan to Southampton, another Premier League club. Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has hinted that defender Ben Chilwell might need to explore opportunities elsewhere due to limited playing time. Chilwell, who has struggled with injuries, has found it challenging to secure a regular spot in Chelsea’s starting lineup.
Maresca, while acknowledging Chilwell’s talent, pointed out the difficulties the player faces in finding the right position within the squad. During a pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game against Manchester City, Maresca revealed that Chilwell had missed recent training sessions due to illness, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.
“Chilly is with us but he has not been training for the last few days because he has been ill,” Maresca stated. He further explained that while Chilwell remains a valuable player, it might be in his best interest to seek more playing time elsewhere, especially with the transfer window still open.
