A tragic incident unfolded in the Mushin area of Lagos State on Monday evening when an unidentified man was struck and killed by a train while walking along the railway track. The accident occurred around 6 PM.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement released the same day. According to LASEMA, the man was discovered deceased on the tracks after being hit by the train.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, reported that the agency received an emergency call regarding a train accident near Cappa in Lagos at approximately 6 PM.
“Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, an adult male, walking along the railway track, was found dead after being hit by an oncoming train,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu said.
Further investigations revealed that the man, who was yet to be identified and was partially dressed, died instantly due to the impact of the collision. The agency’s response team has since bagged the remains of the deceased, awaiting the arrival of officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for transfer to the morgue.
Naija News also reports on rising tensions in the Ajiran community of Lekki, Lagos, following the brutal murder of Demola, the first son of the Ojomu of Ajiran land, Tijani Akinloye, earlier on Monday. The incident occurred near Chevron Drive, close to Ebano Supermarket, where Demola was shot and butchered by unidentified gunmen, causing widespread fear and anxiety in the area.
Residents have begun fleeing the area in fear of further violence. The management of a nearby estate has issued a notice urging residents to avoid the Chevron, Agungi, and Ajiran areas due to the escalating tension.
“This is to notify all residents that Ajiran (Agungi) king’s son was assassinated today along Chevron Drive (close to Ebano Supermarket) this morning,” the notice read. “We therefore plead to our esteemed residents to avoid Chevron area, Agungi, and Ajiran for now for their safety.”
When contacted, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, stated that he was not yet informed about the incident.
