The family of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, has expressed opposition to any plans to commemorate the first anniversary of his death. Mohbad, who passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, left behind unresolved questions about the circumstances of his death.
In a statement released by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team, the family urged individuals and organizations considering anniversary celebrations to halt their plans. The family emphasized their desire to mourn privately and avoid reopening old wounds. They also voiced concerns that some might exploit Mohbad’s memory for commercial gain.
The statement read, “It has come to our attention that there are plans by various groups to celebrate the first anniversary of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad). We appeal to these groups to suspend such plans and seek proper approval from the family before proceeding. We do not wish for our son’s legacy to be used for commercial purposes.”
