Nigerian actress and content creator, Monalisa Stephen, also known as Gabacci, recently revealed details about her experience in an abusive relationship. In an interview with Saturday Beats, she shared that she didn’t recognize the abuse until her partner physically assaulted her for the first time.
Stephen explained, “I didn’t think it could happen to me. I used to believe, ‘I’m a big woman, why would anyone want to beat me?’ But it has nothing to do with your body size.” The first slap left her in shock, especially as the disagreement that led to the assault was minor. She trusted the individual, even lowering her standards to be with him, but the abuse and humiliation continued.
She further disclosed that her partner justified his behavior by claiming that she needed to be “bent” to assert dominance, which gave her a new perspective on certain men. Stephen also highlighted that public figures, despite their fame, face personal struggles, often being seen as easy targets in relationships.
