In a major crackdown, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) destroyed substandard products valued at ₦43 billion. The items, including counterfeit pharmaceuticals and medical devices, were incinerated at the Moniya dump site in Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Officials from security agencies and the Oyo State Government oversaw the destruction. NAFDAC’s Director-General, Professor Christiana Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by Pharm Shabba Mohammed, explained that the items were voluntarily surrendered by compliant companies, NGOs, and trade unions.
The products seized during raids included aphrodisiacs, sex enhancement medications, over-the-counter drugs, and prescription-only medicines, with a total value exceeding ₦48 million. Professor Adeyeye stressed the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat the illegal distribution of narcotics and other contraband.
Public cooperation remains essential in the fight against counterfeit products, with NAFDAC urging individuals to report illegal activities to protect public health.
