The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has retracted an earlier statement in which it warned Starlink of potential sanctions for an unapproved increase in subscription fees. Initially, on Tuesday, the NCC had announced its intention to take enforcement measures against Starlink for the price hike, claiming the company had not sought prior approval for the change.
However, in a subsequent update the same day, the NCC acknowledged that the initial statement had been issued prematurely and was made in error. Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at the NCC, issued an apology for the confusion and requested media outlets to withdraw the previous statement.
Muoka expressed the NCC’s commitment to ensuring regulatory consistency and a favorable investment climate in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector. He also reiterated the Commission’s openness to ongoing discussions regarding tariff reviews to encourage further investment in the industry.
The NCC apologized for any inconvenience caused and appreciated the cooperation of media platforms in rectifying the error.
