Mohammed Goni Alkali, Managing Director/CEO of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), has announced the commission’s initiative to build mega schools across the six states of the subregion to address the issue of out-of-school children.
During a press briefing following a 2-day inspection visit by the House of Representatives Committee on NEDC, Alkali emphasized that the out-of-school children crisis has become a significant problem in the region, necessitating comprehensive intervention.
“Without school structures, you cannot fight out-of-school syndrome. There must be a place to take the children to in order to keep them in school. That is what we are doing here in Bauchi and the other states,” Alkali stated.
The NEDC is committed to collaborating with the six states to ensure that children have a conducive learning environment. Alkali assured that the project would soon be completed and handed over to the Bauchi State Government, reinforcing that the schools are intended to serve the state’s children.
