The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has uncovered and seized over 200,000 litres of illegally refined crude oil in Bayelsa and Rivers States. This discovery follows the destruction of several illegal oil refining sites in the region just 24 hours earlier.
At Dasaba Creek in Bayelsa State, troops uncovered an illegal refining site containing a metal reservoir with over 110,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil. In Rivers State, the Army intercepted over 33,000 litres being siphoned into a tank connected to the Indorama pipeline.
The operations led to the recovery of several items, including pumping machines, hoses, and drums used in the illegal activities. Additionally, in Delta State, the Army intercepted trucks carrying over 30,000 litres of stolen crude near the SEPLAT Energy trunkline.
Four suspects have been arrested in Rivers State and will be handed over to relevant authorities for prosecution. The Army’s efforts are part of a broader campaign to clamp down on economic sabotage in the Niger Delta region. The public is urged to provide intelligence on illegal activities to assist in these efforts.
