Olukayode Ojo, a 36-year-old Nigerian pilot, is facing a five-year prison sentence in Texas after being convicted of falsifying statements to obtain a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certificate.
US District Judge Jodi Dishman has ordered Ojo’s detention pending sentencing following his conviction on August 16, 2024. Ojo was found guilty of making false statements to secure a medical certificate required for piloting commercial aircraft.
According to US Attorney Robert Troester, Ojo’s case was part of an investigation by the Transportation Security Administration and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jackson Eldridge and Matt Dillon. Evidence revealed that Ojo had previously pleaded guilty to theft charges in Kentucky in February 2023 and later falsified information to the FAA in an attempt to hide his criminal history while applying for an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
Ojo faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and fines of up to $250,000 for each count.
