The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of Bristol Tamunobiefiri, widely known as PIDOMNigeria, by the National Cybercrime Center on allegations of compromising government operations. Tamunobiefiri, an anonymous whistleblower active on platforms such as X.com and 99% Oppressed, was apprehended on August 5, 2024, in his hotel room in Rivers State.

The arrest came to public attention after journalist David Hundeyin reported PIDOMNigeria missing, sparking a social media campaign demanding his whereabouts. The campaign utilized hashtags such as #PIDOM, #FreePidom, and #WhereisPidom.

In an official statement on Saturday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, outlined the charges against PIDOMNigeria, which include unlawful possession and dissemination of classified documents, as well as other cyber-related offenses.

Adejobi assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted, emphasizing the police’s commitment to upholding the law and ensuring national security.
