Ajaero’s Allegations Against FG
Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has accused the federal government of placing a wanted British national at the headquarters of the NLC in Abuja. Ajaero made the claim during the 2024 ASUU State of the Nation Conference, where he also criticized the government’s efforts to suppress opposition to its policies.

The British national, Andrew Wynne (also known as Drew Povey), was declared wanted by the police for allegedly conspiring to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The police are investigating claims of foreign mercenaries working to destabilize Nigeria’s democracy.

Ajaero’s Arrest and Release
Ajaero himself was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in September, while on his way to the UK for a conference, a move that caused public outrage. He was released after several hours and has since called on the government to explain how Wynne was able to enter Nigeria, demanding transparency on the issue. This is Ajaero’s first public statement since his detention.
