The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a stern warning of a nationwide strike if their President, Joe Ajaero, is arrested or detained by the Nigeria Police. This decision was made following an emergency meeting of the NLC’s National Executive Council (NEC) held on Tuesday morning.

The police have reportedly invited Ajaero for questioning over allegations related to the financing of terrorism. The NEC resolved that while Ajaero would comply with the invitation, the union’s legal team would seek additional time for him to appear.

NLC Deputy President, Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani, has called on workers across the country to prepare for potential industrial action if the police’s actions do not align with the union’s expectations. He stated, “If our President is arrested, all workers will down tools immediately. Further directives will be communicated by our leadership.”
