The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) has stated that Dangote Refinery and other local refiners are allowed to sell directly to marketers on a “willing buyer, willing seller” basis, countering allegations from the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC).

MURIC had claimed that NNPCL increased petrol prices to undermine Dangote Refinery’s efforts to lower fuel costs. However, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, clarified that market forces determine fuel prices and denied any attempts to control refinery operations or become a sole distributor.
