The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially addressed and denied recent claims circulating on social media that it directed corps members to upgrade their bank accounts in preparation for a supposed ₦70,000 minimum wage payment.
Reports suggested that corps members were being advised to switch their accounts from Student Accounts, which have deposit limits, in anticipation of the new wage. However, the NYSC has categorically dismissed these claims.
In a statement from the NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, the organization labeled the circulating information as false and baseless. The NYSC clarified that it has not received any official directive to begin paying corps members a ₦70,000 minimum wage or to instruct them to upgrade their bank accounts for such payments.
Megwa urged corps members and the public to disregard these rumors, emphasizing that no such instructions have been issued by the relevant government departments. He also warned bloggers and social media influencers against spreading unauthorized and misleading information regarding the NYSC.
Corps members were reminded to rely on the official communication channels of the NYSC for accurate information and not to be swayed by misinformation.
