There Is Nothing To Write Home About Obaseki’s Eight Years – Okpebholo
All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki’s eight-year administration, claiming it did not bring development to the state. Okpebholo assured the people of Edo that he would deliver on his promises if elected.
During an interactive session with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel at the new APC state secretariat on Ikpokpan Road, Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin, on Tuesday, Okpebholo emphasized his commitment to action over words. He stated that politicians who talk too much often fail to deliver.
“I will respect the traditional institution in Edo State, and continue to hold in high esteem the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, who is currently being treated with disdain by some persons in Edo State,” Okpebholo said. He added that he has the capacity and experience to govern Edo State effectively from November 12, 2024, with the support of the Edo electorate.
Okpebholo accused Governor Obaseki of mismanaging federal allocations and internally generated revenue, and argued that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, would not bring the necessary changes. He claimed that Ighodalo, being part of Obaseki’s administration, would continue the same ineffective policies.
“There is nothing to write home about the almost eight years of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki. Edo State government has failed Edo people. The anointed son of Obaseki, Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the crisis-ridden PDP in Edo State, cannot do better than Obaseki, his business associate, as Ighodalo has been the administration’s chief economic adviser in almost eight years, without any legacy development project on the ground,” he stated.
Okpebholo pledged to introduce practical governance focused on infrastructural projects and the empowerment of Edo residents in all 18 local government areas if elected. He promised to deliver real developments across all sectors, contrasting his approach with what he described as Obaseki’s reliance on Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and propaganda.
“I am coming as a servant, to introduce practical governance, focus on infrastructural projects and empowerment of Edo residents in the 18 local government areas, when, not if elected. Edo residents will see real developments in all sectors,” Okpebholo added.
