A notorious bandit kingpin, dressed in military camouflage, sparked outrage on social media after hosting a TikTok live session where he offered financial assistance to his followers. The live broadcast, which quickly went viral, showed numerous followers eagerly sharing their account numbers in hopes of receiving money from the criminal leader.
The incident drew widespread condemnation, with many Nigerians expressing disbelief that a criminal could openly flaunt his activities online. Videos from the session were later uploaded to X (formerly Twitter), amplifying the public’s anger and leading to calls for immediate action by the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to locate and arrest the individual.
Social media users criticized the government’s inability to track and apprehend such criminals despite their blatant use of technology. Some called for stricter regulations on platforms like TikTok, while others questioned why the police and military were not using available resources like drones to track these criminals.
In response to the outrage, Nigeria Police Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi defended the police, stating that it is unrealistic to expect all criminals to be apprehended at once. He urged the public to appreciate the efforts of the police and armed forces, highlighting that arrests are made daily, even if not every criminal is caught immediately.
